Senior Applications Engineer
Our client is seeking a motivated, experienced engineer who is committed to a product design career in a fast paced team environment. This position offers the opportunity to lead the development of technical product solutions while contributing to the success of several core gproduct lines.
As a Senior Application Engineer, this person has the responsibility for developing customized product and configuration solutions to satisfy specific customer requirements. This individual will review the product requirements on customer orders and will determine how best to utilize existing designs and new custom approaches to provide high quality, cost
effective product solutions. This role requires an individual to find innovative
ways to solve problems, and balance the needs for high quality, cost effective, and timely solutions. As a Senior Engineer, this individual will assume the role of project engineering lead with overall responsibility for design, engineering, and schedule adherence on large projects.
Candidate’s primary responsibilities include the following:
Develop unique, customer specific engineering solutions for client. Focus will be on developing well-designed, manufacturable, cost effective solutions.
Provide technical oversight and guidance to drafters assigned to projects. Responsible for design solution and approval of ETO (engineer-to-order) applications.
Support field installation and product start-ups.
Support the Customer Service Department by troubleshooting field issues and developing cost effective
resolutions that ensure customer satisfaction.
Assist in developing and maintaining team quality procedures.
Serve as mentor to staff engineers helping to guide them towards attainment of licensure as a professional engineer.
Develop core template design solutions and guidelines to serve as the design basis for repeat ETO design needs.
Work with Product Engineering to identify opportunities for simpler, more robust product offerings to remain competitive in the market. Assist in the design and implementation of such product enhancements.
Keep abreast of competitor products and market strategies.
Customer interface will be required, consequently moderate travel will be expected.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications / skills:
PE License or qualified to apply – required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to quickly understand existing product designs and to design new custom creative and innovation
solutions.
Superior ability to achieve anticipated results in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to plan, prioritize, make commitments, and manage several concurrent projects through to completion in a timely fashion. Ability to quickly sort through details and properly identify the level of detail and effort required.
Structural design and FEA experience. Ability to produce professional, clearly presented calculation
packages.
AISC and AISI specification experience
Design and manufacturing experience utilizing the following materials and manufacturing processes: structural steel, plywood, sheet steel stamping and forming, welding.
Excellent drafting skills, proficient in 3D modeling (preferably using Inventor) and experience in 2D
AutoCad.
Basic electrical knowledge – motors and controls.
Mechanical aptitude – fasteners, machine design, hydraulics.
Construction industry and building code familiarity.
Testing/Prototyping experience
