Mechanical Designer

 

Key Partners, Inc. is assisting our Portsmouth, NH client with their need for a Mechanical Designer. The candidate will be responsible for generation of 3D models and drawings (details, sub assemblies, kits, assemblies, etc.) under minimal supervision using Pro/E Wildfire 3/4. Candidate is accountable for drawing and BOM accuracy with regard to fit, tolerance adn compliance with company standards. The individual is expected to allocate significant time to preparing detail and assembly drawing.

Requirements:

  • Produce CAD design models and drawings of complex tight tolerance industrial machinery using Pro/E Wildfire 3 and 4. Scope may be conceptual, trade off, or final design. Incorporate standards such as material sizes, punches, bend radii, leg length, etc.
  • Calculate part tolerances, vitrual conditions and tolerance stack-up analyses to ensure fit, function and economical manufacture.
  • Produce and check drawings for design intent, completeness, correctness and compliance with drafting standards.
  • Drawing types could include detail, isometric, exploded views, assembely, sub assembly, etc.
  • Stay current on drafting and ANSI standards and CAD design technology.
  • Work closely with suppliers in selected technical matters.
  • Provide technical assistance for product literature, decals, technical manuals, etc.
  • Provide support to other departments such as Assembly, Manufacturing, Service, Marketing, Quality Assurance, etc. as required. Make observations throughout development and integrate them appropriately.
  • Provide investigation of engineering change (or product improvement) requests, non-conforming materials reports and supplier deviation change requests.
  • Proficiency in Pro/E modeling and drawing skills are mandatory. Experience managing large, complex multi level assemblies a plus. Experience with Pro/Sheetmetal and Pro/Mechanica are a plus.
  • Machine design experience mandatory. Experience with turbines (gas or steam), microturbines, turbochargers or other high speed / high temperature / high tolerance equipment a strong plus.
  • Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment with constantly changing priorities required.
  • Strong written, presentation, and documentation skills a plus.
  • Knowledge of fabrication methods in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Must be able and willing to learn and apply the latest technology in new product development and improvements of current products.
  • "Hands-on" designer who is comfortable spending time around the equipment is mandatory. Designer should be comfortable comparing actaul hardware to virtual designs and able to verify the design intent has been met.
  • Design of the components, assemblies and products while considering proper fit, form and function, ease of assembly and field service access.

Qualifcations:

  • Two year mechanical or electromechancial engineering technology or associates degree, plus additional specialized courses or training.
  • Complex machine design experience a plus.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast paced team environment and able to multitask with changing priorities.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical software a must.
